About Jayne
I was born in New York’s Mystical Catskill Mountains into the family’s third generation of magicians and illusionists.
I apprenticed magic with my Dad, starting as the cute little kid carrying props to him on stage and then developing into his assistant, and later the opening act (specializing in street and close-up magic).
Dad taught me the love of audiences, magic, and illusion. He performed classic magic in black tuxedo tails and top hat. The show was amazing and fun, and it ultimately inspired my own “Laughs, Wonders, and Illusions” show.
As an adult, I pursued a 20+ year career as a Computer Scientist at a Fortune 50 and then 12 years as a full-time college professor. I still loved magic
Magically, I eventually struck out on my own, but Dad and I still often performed together. As peers, we created grander shows and illusions together. During rehearsals, we dreamed of performing full-time. The dream was cut short when he passed unexpectedly at 54 years old. Eventually, I took up that dream for us both.
First, I created and performed “Laughs, Wonders and Illusions” to entertain in board rooms, at special events and fundraisers, and for audiences ranging from businesses to civic groups. There is a family-first version for community events, schools, and libraries.
Artistically, I struggled with two issues. First, the magic learned from some books, mentors, and available from magic dealers was tired, and long over-played. Second, I wondered if magic could be more than “deception for the purpose of entertainment.” In short, what is magic, and why do it? Then COVID paused live performance, so I locked myself up in my studio and mumbled that I did not want to say “pick a card” ever again.
I wrote “Manifestations of Imagination,” a theatrical séance, and performed it at private gatherings with great success. That show will return in Fall 2025.
Then in 2022, I wrote and premiered “Strange Tales of Loves and Devotions,” a continually evolving narrative Illusion Show exploring emotions at the edge of human relationships and reality itself.
During 2024, I began to explore the affinity between perception and interpretation—and the practice of Creativity. I discovered that, if only for a few minutes, magic might explore the endless possibilities, and travel home with the guests to change the way they look at the world.
My new offerings challenge reality, and encourage guests to bring a fresh perspective to everything they experience during and after the show.
